What is a CASA Volunteer? A CASA Volunteer is a person who is appointed by a judge to be a voice in court for abused and neglected children. They are tasked with conducting an independent investigation to determine what is in the best interest of the child for whom they are advocating. The CASA makes recommendations directly to the judge, helping him make the most informed decision possible.
Who are CASA Volunteers? CASA Volunteers are everyday people who have a special place in their hearts for abused and neglected children. CASA Volunteers come from all walks of life. A volunteer can be a person who works full time, is retired, or is a stay at home mom. A volunteer does not need to have any legal experience.
How do I become a CASA Volunteer? If you are at least twenty-one years of age and interested in helping a child in need in Camden County, please fill out our questionnaire.
I've completed the questionnaire, now what? Once the CASA Staff has received your completed questionnaire, you will be contacted by phone to schedule a screening interview. The interview will last approximately an hour. The next step will be to complete forty hours of training. This is accomplished through both classroom type instruction and independent study. Our next training class begins in the Spring of 2007. Contact the CASA Staff for details.
