40 Hour Pre-Service Training Outline

Spring 2006

  •  Roles & Responsibilities of a CASA Volunteer

 

Session 2            May 9th (Tuesday)     5:00pm - 9:00pm

  •  How a Case Enters the Department of Family and Children

  •  Expectations of the Judge and the Juvenile Court System

 

Session 3             May 16th (Tuesday)     5:00pm - 9:00pm

  •  Exploring Cultural Awareness & Sensitivity

 

Session 4              May 23rd (Tuesday)       5:00pm - 9:00pm

  •  Understanding Families

  •  Understanding Children

 

Session 5              May 30th (Tuesday)       5:00pm - 9:00pm

  •  Communicating as a CASA Volunteer

  •  CASA & The Department of Family and Children Protocol

 

Session 6              June 6th (Tuesday)       5:00pm - 9:00pm

  •  The CASA Volunteer - Gathering Information

An additional twelve hours are needed to complete your 40-hour pre-service training.  You will earn those credit hours while completing your Community Resource Internship, Courtroom Observation, and Practice Interview assignments.

All CASA Volunteers must attend 12 additional hours of training each year.  There are many opportunities throughout the year to complete this requirement.
